Starbucks in New York City

PLEASE NOTE
The stores pictured below are labeled with information that comes directly from the official Starbucks web site. The only alterations I have made are to remove certain punctuation marks. Please do not report any errors in the names or spellings of streets or cities to me, but rather to Starbucks. Once they fix the error on their end, my database will pick it up. I will fill missing photograph dates as I have time, and I will continue to try and obtain store opening dates.

This store is unusual in two respects--check out that cool flag with the Starbucks logo. And inside, morning rush customers pour their own coffee from holders set out on a counter. The local art displayed on the wall (at least when I was there) is really cool. This is also Second store I've encountered next to a Sandella's (a crappy delicatessin, if one can so judge based solely on one croissant).

Oh, and let's not forget to point out one the view of the two World Trade Center towers in the background.

Okay... that is REALLY weird. I've found some really strange data spouted by the Starbucks Store Locator, such as Asian locations plotted in the middle of the U.S., but this is the oddest name for a store yet. I mean, it has an address, so why not use it? Did the person entering the data just get lazy or what?

As for the store itself, it is unusual in that you have to walk down a ramp and reverse direction to reach the counter.

Plush curtains and mirrors throughout the store, including some that server to block the light coming in the ample picture window. I do think the corporate-style furniture classes with the unique couches, benches, and tables. And the overhead lights--I can only describe them as funky because I don't know what else to say.

I was told that this store stands on the site of the Dove Tavern. It is believed that Nathan Hale, a martyr soldier of the American Revolution, was hanged there.

This store is build in an old theaters, which is sure to disappoint some. But at least the store preserves some of the old style charm with a brick wall and a series of small movie posters.

This was the best photo I managed to get before being stopped by NYPD, claiming no photography was allowed in the area. I was suspicious of his claims, but given that over 1000 people were being arrested over in Manhattan that week during the Republican Convention, I couldn't take the chance. So go vote for Bush and ensure that Ashcroft can continue to keep us safe from those evil terrorists!

We're lucky I managed to get this photo before NYPD, serving and protecting, stopped m e from taking any more photographs. Hurray for homeland security!

This is one of the few company-owned stores in the U.S. that is physically in a building belonging to a university. Perhaps as a nod to that, the store displays the winners of a local art competition, one of which is a blueprint-type painting/drawing of a new design for a Starbucks "cone".

This store is as large on the inside as it looks from the outside, and perhaps a little too large. The staff clearly can't monitor the upstairs, and the result is that the tables and windowsills are marred with graffiti. But don't let that keep you away. Check out the store for the art on display, and sit on the balcony overlooking the Shellbank Basin.

Licensed Stores (not operated by Starbucks)

PLEASE NOTE
The list below is not meant to be a complete list of licensed stores. Some licensed stores are not listed on the Starbucks web site, and some of the stores listed below might have closed. That's not really important. I only keep track of them so I know which ones I don't need to visit. But if you know for certain that any of these are actually operated by Starbucks, please let me know (and send me a phone # so I can double-confirm).
