Starbucks in Edinburgh

PLEASE NOTE
The stores pictured below are labeled with information that comes directly from the official Starbucks web site. The only alterations I have made are to remove certain punctuation marks. Please report any naming errors directly to Starbucks. Once they fix the error on their end, my database will pick it up. However, if you know any of the opening/closing dates I am missing, please send them to me.

Edinburgh - Canongate

OPENED: ?, PHOTO: 28 June 2009

This store has a particularly artistic bent. You will find snippets of poetry painted on the walls throughout. Look harder and you will find a display of lino-cut images, and also, tucked away in a corner, a pair of very old engravings--one is the Canongate Tolbooth, and I forget what the other one is.

Edinburgh - Haymarket RailwayStatio

OPENED: 15 January 2009, PHOTO: 27 June 2009

I was expecting a kiosk, but this location turned out to be one of the prettiest railway station stores, cozy with a brick interior.

Edinburgh - Nicholson Street (140), EDINBURGH

OPENED: 01 April 2008, PHOTO: ? June 2009

At first glance this store seems fairly ordinary, but if you look closer at the wall to your left, you will see a tryptich of watercolors of the store painted by a local barista.

Edinburgh - Palmerston Place

OPENED: ?, PHOTO: 28 June 2009

I wish the street construction had not prevented me from shooting from a wider angle so you could see how ornate the building is. Inside, the store is one of the most ornate in the city. It is built inside an old bank, and when you go downstairs you can actually see the vault door. Another interesting feature is that to get to the toilets you have to cross a room that is small, but just big enough, that you could almost start up a discotheque down there.

Edinburgh - Princes Street

Click more to see the spectacular view of the Edinburgh Castle, visible through the ornate windows that, along with the ornate ceiling, adorn this spacious store. Look around and you will see a watercolor sketch of what I assume is Princes Street, and also an extremely unusual and possibly unique feature, a display dedicated to Erick Hoyt, a Candian writer who writes about the creatures of the deep and also happens to frequent the store.

Edinburgh Colinton Road 2

OPENED: 01 April 2009, PHOTO: ? June 2009

This store, just outside the city center, is one of the more charming in Edinburgh because of it's location inside a cute little house. The store has some interesting local artwork, including a painting of nearby Morningside Road.

Edinburgh-Lothian Road

OPENED: ?, PHOTO: 28 June 2009

This store, one of the oldest in the city, has three seating areas. The main one in lobby, a second one that offers a little bit of privacy, and a third one way in the back that offers even more privacy. But what you should really notice are the *really* old programmes from the Royal Lyceum Theatre--one even dates back to 1887!

Edinburgh-Royal Mile

Be sure to go upstairs and look for the numerous posters promoting the world-famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival. From the second floor you can get a good view of the plaza, which is nearly always busy with visitors, making this, at times, one of the busiest stores in Europe.

Closed Stores
Edinburgh - Borders (Closed)

Stores Closed Before I Could Visit

The following stores are ones that I was not able to visit before they closed. Each of these stores represents the loss of a small piece of my soul. If I miss enough stores, I will eventually lose all of my soul and become like one of the walking dead. I appeal to Starbucks to alert me ahead of time before a store closes so that I will not lose my soul in its entirety.

Licensed Stores (not operated by Starbucks)

PLEASE NOTE
The list below is not meant to be a complete list of licensed stores. Some licensed stores are not listed on the Starbucks web site, and some of the stores listed below might have closed. That's not really important. I only keep track of them so I know which ones I don't need to visit. But if you know for certain that any of these are actually operated by Starbucks, please let me know (and send me a phone # so I can double-confirm).
