Starbucks in Boston

PLEASE NOTE
The stores pictured below are labeled with information that comes directly from the official Starbucks web site. The only alterations I have made are to remove certain punctuation marks. Please do not report any errors in the names or spellings of streets or cities to me, but rather to Starbucks. Once they fix the error on their end, my database will pick it up. I will fill missing photograph dates as I have time, and I will continue to try and obtain store opening dates.

After looking up the word in the dictionary to make sure of what it means, I can say that the interior design of this location is "stark", and not entirely pleasing to me. It needs... something. Something besides the cool art on the wall, as I don't expect the art to remain forever (unlike Starbucks Corporation).

443 Boylston Street

OPENED: ?, PHOTO: 16 March 2001

Just the fact that this store is across from an FAO Schwartz makes it a must-visit. But it has a downstairs as well, which is extremely unusual. Unfortunately, it was closed off, so I couldn't check it out, but that just means I'll have to return.

Besides sporting the black facade that I enjoy so much, this store is decorated with a dining table and a coffee table that are definitely not corporate standard, and give the store an atmosphere befitting the building that houses it.

OPENED: ?, PHOTO: 15 March 2001

Aaagh! How frustrating, that people maintaining the Starbucks store locator are lax in removing stores that have been closed. After an unknowing barista assured me of its existence, I wandered all around the Faneuil Hall Marketplace looking for the mysterious second store. When I returned to inquire further, the manager explained that the store had been closed. So I returned to my car to discover a parking ticket, which I'll never pay.

Tremont-South End

OPENED: ?, PHOTO: 15 March 2001

This store is very well-decorated. Chenille, or perhaps corduroy, curtains cover the windows. Though the store just opened, the walls already sport some excellent artwork. Of course there are plants to add to the decor. And let's not overlook the unusual, yet striking, black paint on the exterior.

Belmont/Cushing Sq, Belmont

OPENED: ?, PHOTO: 09 August 2002

I thought this was just a neat design that Starbucks came up with, but according to a visitor to my site, this used to be a Friendly's. Not being from the northeast, I never would have recognized it.

It's appropriate I guess, as the road-trip-loving barista on duty when I visited was exceptionally friendly.

Note to the manager--you must keep her on staff forever; otherwise my caption will be out of date, and my lazy self hates revising captions.

As you read this, there's probably a Starbucks being remodeled somewhere in the world. Every once in a while I stumble into one of these stores in transition, like this one here. Forunately, it was not closed for business, like other's I've run into (and which I will have to revisit).

Notice the unusual graffitti on the wall, doubtlessly painted by reckless youths with corporate mentalities.

Yet another in a series of Starbucks built in former Friendly's locations, according to a local who is missing his old breakfast places as they are turned into Starbucks. I can't say I'm shedding any tears over the disappearance of a restaurant chain, as long as there remains someplace in town to have a heaping helping of pancakes before the obligatory cup of Starbucks coffee.

If pursued by ruffians, you can duck into this Starbucks, grabbe a DoubleShot, leave a few bills on the counter, and escape down the long hallway leading to the back door. With luck, your pursuers will be delayed as they marvel at the angled wall that makes the space appear curved.

And the bathroom is oddly shaped to boot.

PLEASE NOTE
The list below is not meant to be a complete list of licensed stores. Some licensed stores are not listed on the Starbucks web site, and some of the stores listed below might have closed. That's not really important. I only keep track of them so I know which ones I don't need to visit. But if you know for certain that any of these are actually operated by Starbucks, please let me know (and send me a phone # so I can double-confirm).
