Starbucks in Australia

PUT DOWN THE PLASTIC

PLEASE NOTE
The stores pictured below are labeled with information that comes directly from the official Starbucks web site. The only alterations I have made are to remove certain punctuation marks. Please report any naming errors directly to Starbucks. Once they fix the error on their end, my database will pick it up. However, if you know any of the opening/closing dates I am missing, please send them to me.

Hawthorn

This neighborhood store, the only one outside the Melbourne city centre, is smallish, but be sure to look out for a cool painting of siren drinking a cup of joe.

Midtown Bourke, Melbourne

OPENED: 06 October 2001, PHOTO: 28 January 2011

Though next to a mall, this store is actually pretty cool because of the Asian art it displays, especially on the second floor. Be sure to walk up the wooden staircase to see several cool art pieces as well as a tall lamp covered in red cloth.

Swanston Street 035390, Melbourne

OPENED: 04 September 2006, PHOTO: 28 January 2011

This recently-remodeled store has an unusual feature, a seating area separate by an odd and modern-looking partition consisting of tall slats. There is another seating area with cafeteria-style tables, and a third seating area that is elevated.

Cockle Bay, Sydney

OPENED: 02 August 2001, PHOTO: 27 January 2011

This newly-renovated store has the funkiest design of all the Sydney stores. Table, chairs, seats, and the interior decor give the store a very modern, almost futuristic look. And situated where it is, it's a spectacular place to people-watch along the bayfront. But perhaps the coolest feature is upstairs, a repurposed cart used as a condiment bar!

Haymarket, Sydney

OPENED: 19 July 2001, PHOTO: 25 January 2011

This store, in a heritage building, is the closest to the Central station and a good choice for my first Starbucks visit in Australia. The area is Sydney's China town, and the store displays a small menu in Chinese, as well as Japanese and Korean.

Princess Alexandra Hospital, Wooloongabba

This remodeled store features a newer design that is unusual for a hospital store. The store definitely has that coffeehouse feel, with a stylish wooden bar, and a separated seating area.

Closed Stores

Stores Closed Before I Could Visit

The following stores are ones that I was not able to visit before they closed. Each of these stores represents the loss of a small piece of my soul. If I miss enough stores, I will eventually lose all of my soul and become like one of the walking dead. I appeal to Starbucks to alert me ahead of time before a store closes so that I will not lose my soul in its entirety.
